Spiritual Formation Conference

Each spring Barclay hosts a Spiritual Formation Conference on our campus, normally during Holy Week, which provides an ideal context for developing a deeper and more intimate relationship with Christ through participation in various spiritual disciplines and exercises.  The theme for this year's conference, held March 30-April 1, 2010, was "Connecting with Your Inner Monk."

The featured speaker/spiritual director for this year's conference was Dave Nixon, director of Sustainable Faith and founding pastor of Vineyard Central in Cincinnati, Ohio.   Dave received training in spiritual direction through the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana.  For the last five years he has served with Vineyard-USA as the spiritual director for Pastor Sabbath Retreats around the country. Since 2007 he’s been serving as the spiritual director for the D.Min. students at George Fox University in the leadership and spiritual formation track.

Dave and his wife Jody, married for 34 years, have three children: Kimberly (in Berlin, Germany), Carrie (in New York), and Jonathan (Cincinnati). The Nixons live in the former convent of the St. Elizabeth Church parish.

Dave spoke during chapel on Tuesday and Thursday morning at Haviland Friends Church.  He also facilitated a guided retreat experience during the day on Wednesday in the Barclay College Student Center.  If you would like to listen to either of Dave's chapel messages on March 30 or April 1, just go to those dates on our chapel webpage and click on "Listen."
